About the Code Commission

It is fundamental to a democratic society that the laws of a country are freely accessible to the public. To that end, the Code Commission serves as an independent commission of the Republic of Palau that is tasked with the duty to “compile, revise, codify and publish all session laws, statutes, and other general and permanent laws” and to “publish in hard copy and computer accessible form public documents.” (1 PNC § 1002 / Executive Order No. 413)

It does so primarily through updating and publishing the Palau National Code Annotated (PNCA) to reflect the most recent Republic of Palau Public Laws (RPPLs). It additionally maintains a larger electronic database of public documents of the Republic, accessible upon request.
The Code Commission oversees the Publications and Law Access Unit, a small office that is led by a managing editor and that performs the indispensable codification work.
